Get ready for more cones and construction in the coming months.
Maricopa will spend more than half — or $104.95 million — of its capital improvement plan budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on street infrastructure.
The CIP is a long-range planning document that covers the city’s capital needs over a decade, including projects related to roads, buildings, parks and pricey equipment. This is separate from the $85.8 million operating budget that covers day-to-day services.
“This is representative of that commitment to the importance of transportation and streets infrastructure within the city,” said Chief Financial Officer Matt Kozlowski.
Kozlowski also presented a visual of all the roadway projects over the next decade, with 25 projects for roads alone slated for the next fiscal year.
“There is not one area of the city that is not being hit over the next 10 years with some sort of infrastructure project,” he said.
Among the projects earmarked for the 2027 fiscal year:
- $41.2 million to widen nearly two miles of State Route 238 starting at John Wayne Parkway
- $8.74 million to design and construct a half mile of Farrell Road from Murphy Road to Pala Road
- $6.9 million for a box culvert on Murphy and Farrell Roads
- $2.04 million to design a bridge overpass over the Union Pacific Railroad, connecting SR 238 with Green Road
- $1.32 million for a traffic signal at Maricopa Groves Parkway and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway
The remaining $76.25 million is split between parks, public safety and economic development:
- $12.2 million to complete the Fieldhouse at Copper Sky
- $9.94 million to purchase or replace vehicles for Maricopa Fire/Medical Department
- $6.53 million for water and wastewater lines
- $1.78 million to remodel fire stations
- $1.5 million to replace police vehicles and motorcycles
- $42,499 on police drones

Why are we spending 6.5 million on water and waste lines?Do remember Nancy Smith saying she was going to find a way to buyout global water? That got her elected and the start of her helping to ruin this city.Tax and spend, tax and spend.
Traffic lights cost over a million to set up? Wow.
The heading reads 105 million in streets plan. That should be 137 million plus interest as we are spending 32 million plus interest for the 347.And the special road tax for the 347 goes through 2045!So are we recapturing the 238 41.2 million from this tax….as proposed? Are we going to borrow more money at what city hall says are great rates? Why are we spending 6.53 million on water and waste lines? From what I remember the city ran all the underground water, waste and hydrants to the race track that only the rich can afford?Tax and spend and yet they still need to borrow money. When the people leading your city and control the budget have never owned or operated a business and most have been on government, school or large corporations payroll, money and budgets mean nothing.Socialism is wonderful until you run out of other peoples money.Term limits, financial disclosures when entering local government(city, county, school boards). Let’s vote to breakup these exclusive clubs(city, county, school board)that we are not privy to.
