Arizona Department of Public Safety officials today confirmed the identity of the driver arrested last month after a trooper clocked a vehicle traveling 103 mph on State Route 347.
Landon Wilkes Eck, 32, of Maricopa was booked into the Pinal County jail Feb. 16 on charges of criminal speed and reckless driving, according to DPS. Eck lives in the city’s Senita neighborhood, according to public records.
A trooper recorded the vehicle’s speed at 103 mph in a posted 65-mph zone using LiDAR during the stop north of Maricopa. DPS previously said the driver told the trooper he was trying to get home from work and that it was not his usual car, so he was not used to the gas pedal.
The vehicle was towed and will remain impounded until Sunday, according to DPS. He has been released from jail.
Maricopa court records show Eck previously received a speeding citation in 2020. The records also show he faced an assault charge that was dismissed in 2023 on the condition that he complete alcohol rehabilitation.
The arrest comes amid renewed calls from residents and local officials for stronger traffic enforcement and improved safety measures on city streets.
