DPS investigating SR 347 motorcycle crash near Casa Blanca Road

Editor’s note: There’s an update to this story.

A reported motorcycle crash brought northbound and southbound State Route 347 traffic to a standstill during rush hour this evening.

The collision was reported just after 6 p.m. A DPS spokesperson said at 6:30 p.m. the agency is investigating the crash and that injuries were not yet confirmed. All lanes remained open.

Drivers reported deadlock traffic to our news desk at 6:07 p.m., and dispatchers received the official call two minutes later. Five witnesses who spoke with InMaricopa said they saw a downed motorcyclist who remained on the ground for several minutes after first responders arrived.

The crash involved a dark-colored Honda street bike traveling north out of Maricopa, witnesses said. It happened near the Casa Blanca Road intersection, less than 3 miles north of city limits.

The crash occurred about 30 minutes after another, unrelated collision farther south on SR 347 in which a driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Arizona Department of Transportation’s AZ511 traffic map showed heavy congestion or closures from South Maricopa Road near Wild Horse Pass down to city limits during the response.

This is a breaking story. Check back for updates.
