An SUV struck an electrical pole near Desert Sunrise High School this afternoon, sending the driver to the hospital, according to Maricopa police.
The single-vehicle crash happened about 2:48 p.m. today in the 16200 block of Murphy Road, just after the driver turned onto Farrell Road, a police spokesperson told InMaricopa. Three passengers were released to their parents to “seek further treatment as needed.”
The incident occurred 18 minutes after school let out for the day. It’s the second Monday of the new school year.
Police did not immediately release the driver’s age or details on the extent of their injuries. InMaricopa has requested that information.

In other afternoon traffic, a motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital after a crash with a passenger vehicle on southbound State Route 347 just north of Maricopa, authorities said.

The roadway remained open following the crash, AZDPS spokesperson Raul Garcia said, but southbound traffic on SR 347 was described by motorists at 3:45 p.m. as “a slog.”
