ED3 customers must update accounts as utility launches SmartHub system

Electrical District No. 3 customers will see several changes to their accounts next month as the utility rolls out a new enterprise software platform, Maricopa’s 100-year-old power company announced this morning.

The upgrade takes effect April 13 and will change how customers access billing, payment options and energy-use information.

As part of the system migration, all ED3 account holders will receive new account numbers. Customers will also need to re-enroll in several account features once the new system goes live.

The new platform will introduce the SmartHub app and online portal, which will replace ED3’s current mobile app. According to the utility, SmartHub will allow customers to view real-time electricity usage and manage account settings from a smartphone or computer.

After April 13, customers who previously used automatic payments or paperless billing will need to sign up again in the new system. Credit card payment information will not transfer to the new platform and must be entered again directly by customers through the SmartHub app or online portal.

ED3 officials said customer service representatives will not be permitted to accept or process credit card or banking information over the phone, meaning all payment details must be entered by customers themselves through the secure system.

To prepare for the transition, the utility will temporarily suspend credit card payments from April 6 through 12 while the software upgrade is completed. Other payment methods will remain available during that period, and credit card payments will resume April 13 through the new SmartHub system or in person.

Beginning that day, customers can register for the SmartHub platform to manage their account, monitor electricity use and set payment preferences.

Additional information, including step-by-step guides and frequently asked questions, is available on ED3’s website. Customers can also seek assistance by phone at 520-424-9021, email at [email protected] or in person at the utility’s Maricopa offices, 41664 W. Smith-Enke Road, Ste. 100, or 41630 W.
