Maricopa Police Department officers shot a man in the Desert Passage neighborhood of Maricopa early this morning, a spokesperson told InMaricopa.
MPD responded to a “call for service” near the 40700 block of West Portis Drive just before 8 a.m. No further details were disclosed about the dispatch call.
“An officer-involved shooting occurred, and an adult male was transported to a Valley hospital,” said the spokesperson, Monica Williams. “No officers were injured.”
Williams confirmed the man was injured by gunfire. She could not immediately confirm if the man was a suspect in a crime, or what threat he posed to the police, as the investigation remains ongoing and in the early stages. InMaricopa await answers to these questions.
The Pinal Regional Special Investigations Unit will investigate the incident, “per the standard procedure,” Williams said. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office will be the lead agency.
