A Maricopa man is facing felony charges after police caught him driving erratically on John Wayne Parkway last week.  

Police responded to a call of a fight between a man and a woman around 5 p.m. Sept. 16 outside Circle K on John Wayne Parkway. 

By the time police arrived, Gregory Picard, 59, and the woman had already left attempted to find them at their apartment, according to a probable cause statement. However, officers, spotted Picard’s white Toyota Tundra speeding southbound at Porter and Bowlin roads,  

Police said the truck was driving erratically, driving halfway between lanes and attempting to use a keypad for a gate that was already open.  

When officers stopped and spoke with Picard, they noted he was “stumbling and involuntarily swaying” and had “bloodshot, watery, red eyes.” He also was argumentative and combative as officers talked to him, “yelling he had not done anything, slurring his speech and yelling profanities” and claimed he did not have any alcohol, according to a probable cause statement. 

The woman, however, told officers Picard “drank quite a bit of alcohol” before driving her around. She also said he hit and yelled at her before threatening to throw her out of the vehicle while driving. 

In a records check, officers saw Picard had three previous DUI charges within the last year, one in February and two in May. 

Picard was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI, disorderly conduct, assault, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.
