The deaths of two men in a Glennwilde house fire last month have been ruled accidental, according to Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office records.

Shannon Cogburn, 50, and Jason Liddle, 51, died from smoke and soot inhalation, as well as toxic effects of methamphetamine, according to public records obtained by InMaricopa. The men died after a fire erupted around 11:36 a.m. Aug. 1 in a home near Portarosa Drive and Corvalis Lane.  

Liddle’s cause of death also included burns to his upper body, with fractured ribs and fentanyl, meth and alcohol in his system. He was found on a bathroom floor under fire debris.

First responders found Cogburn unresponsive in the home before rushing him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A toxicology report showed he tested positive for meth, ecstasy and alcohol.

The report also stated the fire is “thought to have started in the attic … near the HVAC system, and there were no indications of accelerant use.”

A spokesperson for Maricopa Police Department Maricopa Fire/Medical Department said the case is still under investigation, but they expect to release additional information “in the coming weeks, if not sooner.”

“Our local investigators have been awaiting key pieces of information that are now starting to come together … We will release a statement once we are able to do so,” they told InMaricopa today.
