Maricopa Pantry will recognize the volunteers who help power its weekly food distributions with its first Volunteer Appreciation Festival later this month.

The event is scheduled for March 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the pantry site, 50881 W. Papago Road.

Organizers say the gathering will celebrate the people who keep the operation running each weekend while also giving attendees a look at what comes next for the local nonprofit.

“Our volunteers are the heart of our community and deserve to be recognized,” said co-founder Alice Shoaf. “Their commitment has kept our mission alive, even through challenges, and we are excited to celebrate them.”

The festival will include volunteer recognition, community fellowship and a preview of architectural renderings for Maricopa Pantry’s planned community center.

The organization has been rebuilding its operations and planning for the future since a fire damaged the property in 2022.

Maricopa Pantry describes itself as a grassroots effort built on the idea of “neighbors helping neighbors.” The volunteer-driven food bank serves hundreds of families each week with food assistance and other support.

Organizers say the future community center would expand the pantry’s resources and programs for local families as the organization continues growing its reach in Maricopa.
