A Rancho Mirage man who shot at a Tortosa home and vehicle after revelations of an affair was sentenced last month to five years in prison.

Nicholas Bogue, 35, pleaded guilty in March to discharging a firearm at a nonresidential structure, a lesser charge than the drive-by shooting count he initially faced, according to court records. He was sentenced April 15.

No one was hurt in the May 10, 2025, shooting on Vemto Street, but gunfire pierced a garage door, sent one bullet into a downstairs bathroom and struck a vehicle outside the home, according to court records.

The shooting rattled the neighborhood in broad daylight around 2 p.m. Maricopa police responded to the scene and began reviewing traffic camera footage after the driver of a white vehicle fled.

A Gila River Indian Community Police officer later conducted a traffic stop along State Route 347. Bogue was identified as the shooter and was in the vehicle with his wife, who was driving.

Bogue admitted to shooting at the vehicle parked at the Vemto Street home with a Palmetto Dagger handgun that was in his wife’s possession inside the vehicle, according to court records. That gun, along with a Ruger handgun, was turned over to police during the stop.

Police said at the time the shooting was targeted and isolated.

According to information gathered by police from the victim and suspect, Bogue angrily left a gathering of friends on May 10 after revelations of an affair. Bogue reportedly said he was experiencing a manic episode at the time of the shooting.

Court records show Bogue is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, manic depression, severe anxiety and paranoia shortly before his 2016 discharge. Veterans Affairs deemed him disabled in 2024, according to court records.

Bogue was initially charged with drive-by shooting before pleading guilty to the lesser firearm charge.
