Roles reversed in second Hidden Valley shooting involving father, son

Weeks after Hidden Valley resident Ronald Floyd, 60, shot his son after mistaking him for an intruder, authorities say the two were involved in another shooting — this time with their roles reversed.

Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a possible shooting at a home on Wileys Way around 7 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, deputies found Floyd with a gunshot wound, who told officers he had been shot by a family member.

He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Officers later determined the shooter to be Floyd’s 31-year-old son, Dakota Lee Floyd. Pinal County SWAT were called and eventually took him into custody on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a gun by a felon. He was convicted of arson in Pinal County Superior Court in 2023.

No additional details about what led to the second shooting or Ronald Floyd’s condition have been released.

Editor’s note: This story was updated April 17 to reflect the charges and correct the defendant’s last name.

  1. Let them sort this out themselves, high noon, pistols, Hidden Valley streets like the ol’ days.

  2. I know additional “things” about this story, but the most interesting stuff is what someone told me… gossip? I’ll add that I’m curious about why PCSO gets motivated about THIS Hidden Valley crime, as opposed to some others. And why did PCSO build a branch office in Maricopa, then abandon it? Not enough crime here? Or… situation too hot for a mere Sheriff’s office? MAYBE THIS is why our County Attorney has INVITED ICE to our county!!!!!!! (Except, Immigration isn’t the primary problem here. Oh, wait, ICE does Other things now, too.)
