A gray Kia Soul’s front end was crushed in a two-vehicle crash this morning on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway between White-and-Parker and Hartman Roads in southeast Maricopa.
Police said the at-fault driver appeared to have been distracted by a dog in their car, causing them to rear-end a vehicle that was stopped in front of them. Although an ambulance responded before 9 a.m., no injuries were reported.
The crash occurred as several miles of the MCG were reduced to a single lane for ongoing roadwork from White-and-Parker Road to the city limits. Flaggers were alternating traffic flow between Maricopa and Casa Grande when the crash occurred, leaving the smushed Kia stranded in a construction zone–crash site hybrid.
Traffic stalled past 10 a.m.
Officers responding to the collision later rushed to the scene of an unrelated house fire, also on the eastern side of the city.
