A person was detained and taken to the hospital late Saturday night after crashing a C7 Corvette into the sign at the southern entrance to Cobblestone Farms.
The crash scattered debris near John Wayne Parkway and Cobblestone Farms Drive South just before midnight, where reporters saw the white sports car with heavy front-end damage and deployed airbags, disabled next to the monument sign.
An unmarked Arizona Department of Public Safety State Trooper, multiple Maricopa police and fire crews, and an ambulance were on the scene.
The state trooper “attempted to stop the vehicle after it failed to yield,” according to a AZDPS spokesperson, “the reason for the stop is unknown.”
The driver was seen sitting on the curb, then was assisted to a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. Fire crews left the scene shortly after, and the state trooper began taking photos of the scene.
“The driver was detained,” according to the DPS spokesperson. “No further information at this time.”
This is a breaking story and InMaricopa will provide updates as more information becomes available.
