A mobile skin cancer screening program is rolling into Maricopa next week, offering residents free checks, education and preventive resources at no cost.

Maricopa’s Exceptional Community Hospital will host The Sun Bus on April 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its campus on John Wayne Parkway, bringing what organizers describe as a nationwide initiative focused on early detection and sun safety directly to the city.

“The earlier skin cancer is detected, the more treatable it is,” said Medical Director Dr. Brad Green. “Bringing The Sun Bus to Maricopa allows us to remove barriers to care and provide our community with access to critical screenings and education that can truly save lives.”

The event will provide free skin cancer screenings conducted by providers from Better Skin Dermatology Maricopa, along with sun safety education, facial skin imaging and UV camera demonstrations. Attendees can also receive sunscreen and other protective product samples while supplies last.

At Better Skin Dermatology, your skin is our mission. Early detection is key in fighting skin cancer, especially here in Arizona,” said owner Robert Casquejo. “Skin cancer screenings are one of the best ways to check your skin and allow for early detection of abnormal or concerning spots. Getting regular skin checks is an essential part of maintaining good skin health at any age.”

Hospital officials said the goal is to remove barriers to care by offering screenings in a convenient, community-based setting, particularly for people who may not otherwise seek dermatologic services.

Skin cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the U.S. but is also among the most preventable, according to organizers of the program.

“The health and safety of our community is always our top priority,” said Iven Wilson, chief nursing officer for Maricopa’s Exceptional Community Hospital. “This is a meaningful opportunity to empower people with knowledge about their skin health and encourage proactive care.”
